Duke Energy: How To Report a Power Outage

After a storm hits, restoring power as safely and quickly as possible is a top priority, while keeping residents informed. If you experience an outage during a winter storm, you can report it in the following ways:

  • Text OUT to 57801 (standard text and data charges may apply).
  • Use the Duke Energy mobile app. Download the Duke Energy app from a smartphone via Apple Store or Google Play.
  • Visit duke-energy.com/outages on a desktop computer or mobile device.
  • Call the automated outage reporting system at 800-POWERON (800-769-3766).
  • Visit their interactive outage map to find up-to-date information on power outages, including the total number of outages systemwide and estimated times of restoration

Extremely low temperatures across the Carolinas monday morning will create unusually high energy demand. Please conserve where you can.
– Reduce your thermostat to the lowest comfortable setting.
– Avoid using major appliances such as washing machines, clothes dryers, and dishwashers between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m.
– Turn off any unnecessary devices, unused plug-ins, and lights.
– Electric vehicle owners: Charge midday, when demand is lower.

Winter weather can be unpredictable—being prepared makes all the difference. ❄️Use this checklist to make sure you and your family are ready for colder temperatures and potential power outages.

✔️ Prepare now

✔️ Stay informed

✔️ Look out for one another

❄ WINTER WEATHER WEBSITE ❄

Emergency management officials have created a “one-stop shop” for the latest storm information, including updates on county closures, warming shelters, power company contacts, and other essential resources.

Council Declares State of Emergency Ahead of Winter 2026 Storm

Jan 22, 2026

Anderson County Council Declares State of Emergency Ahead of Winter 2026 Storm. At 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2026, the Anderson County Council voted to declare a state of emergency in anticipation of the potential impacts of the Winter 2026 storm.

Over the past week, Anderson County departments have worked collaboratively to coordinate preparation efforts and mobilize necessary resources to ensure public safety and continuity of services.

“This action is in keeping with the disaster declaration issued yesterday by Governor McMaster and helps ensure that response efforts are well coordinated and quickly implemented,” said Anderson County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn.

The state of emergency will remain in effect until conditions warrant.

Anderson County Emergency Management is actively preparing for an expected extreme winter weather event impacting the Upstate.

In advance of the storm, officials operating within the Anderson County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) have launched a centralized “one-stop shop” website providing critical winter weather information. The site includes updates on county closures, warming shelters, power company contacts, and other essential resources.

Residents can access the site at:

https://www.emd.andersonsheriff.org/winterstorm

The Emergency Operations Center is currently operating at Operational Condition (OpCon) 2, indicating enhanced situational awareness and preparedness. One of the primary concerns associated with this event is ice accumulation and prolonged freezing temperatures expected overnight from Saturday into the remainder of the week. Emergency officials strongly urge residents to stay off roadways, limit travel, and take necessary steps now to prepare ahead of the storm.

The largest warming shelter in Anderson County will be located at the Anderson Civic Center and more real time information about shelter openings will be located on the EMD winter weather website.

Additionally, county officials have requested assistance from the South Carolina National Guard to support shelter operations and assist with debris removal in areas most affected by potential power outages or stormrelated damage.

Emergency Management officials will continue close coordination with local school districts to provide the

most up-to-date information as conditions evolve.

The community is encouraged to continue monitoring Anderson County Emergency Management social media platforms for frequent updates throughout the duration of the event.
